Signing Off For 2009

Posted in Diary, News on December 7th, 2009 by Paul Hourican

I’d just like to say a big thank you to all who came out to The Cobblestones on Saturday just gone. A great great night all round with fantastic performances from Rob Mathews and Owen Branagan. And thank you to all of you who came to gigs over 2009, all Dublin shows this year were sell-outs which is great! Onwards and upwards for a new year and a new decade. Happy to report that I have lots of new material and getting into the studio to make a new record now for next while. I will update as things progress and am very very excited about having a fantastic year in 201o.

Best wishes to all,

Paul

Drinking With The Old Man

Posted in Diary, News on September 3rd, 2009 by Paul Hourican

It’s early morning as I write from Spain, the morning after the night before. The night before was a long one, an enjoyable one with far too much alcohol involved. It was just me and the old man eating, talking and drinking of course and ending up in places one should never really go to especially with your father but alas such is life and so be it!

I am writing because there has been a lack of correspondence of late and the old man got his knickers in a twist about it! ‘I went on your website and there’s nothing happening! What the fuck are you doing’? Etc. etc. Well, he has a point I can see. Of late I have been keeping a low profile really, not many gigs, if I did I didn’t announce them, not putting out new material or communicating with those of you who come to the shows and buy the records etc. Well all apologies, as the man said!

So this morning in the glorious sunshinnnne (pity about the Oasis split really) in Espania I wanted to let you in on what I have been up to. Well there is good news and then there’s some more good news. I have been writing and then I have been writing some more and after that I did some writing and low and behold I believe there is a new record on the horizon (why do I think of U2 when I say that word?). I have lots of material now to choose from and a record is taking shape in my head. I’m excited, very excited. There will also be some shows (to be announced in the coming weeks) this side of Christmas, at least one in Dublin and more around Ireland with our sights set on London at some point. There will be a new look website too, eventually (early days!) and a very busy touring schedule for 2010 along with a yes, a wedding to boot! I am delighted to say to you dear friends that I was recently engaged to my beautiful girlfriend of 5 or so years Susan Kelly! And while I am on the subject Sue has been working very closely with me on the music and will play a very prominent role on the album nuevo along with the upcoming live shows!

All in all, there is plenty in store and then some more with new songs being written and recorded, new videos being made, new tour dates being booked and a new album coming soon.  I will endeavour to keep in touch much more and promise an airing of some new material this side of Christmas and maybe a even a gift for those who have beed good! But you have to be good!!
But if you want to hear more you should come to a gig where we will be taking new songs for a test drive!

Until the next time…

Adios amigos!!

Paolo

Diary Entry 27th August 2008

Posted in Diary on August 27th, 2008 by Paul Hourican

Dear Diary!   I am hungover and had a late one last night at the Ruby Sessions 9th Birthday bash in College Green Dublin! Twas a great and very eventful evening with fantastic performances from the likes of Lisa Hannigan, Gavin Glass (who was fucking brilliant!), Cathey Davey and more!! Got home in the small hours of the morning after a run in with a burger joint!! Not a good idea!  Anyway, it has been pointed out to be by a rather cantankerous Italian fan who will remain nameless (Gloria!) that i have not been very good at keeping the old diary together on this here website! It’s a fair point and so i thought i’d try to throw a few words together this morning.  Over the past while i have been keeping myself busy with all sorts of stuff music related! I am currently on the look-out for management, publishing ect. so i have been doing a lot of ‘behind the scenes’ work which has resulted in a new Electronic Press Kit or EPK as we say in the industry! Anyway this took a long time to come about as these things invariably do but i am very happy with the results and hat’s off to Billy (web design) for the job he did here! And since you must be a hardcore PH fan if you are reading this you can have a peak at it here www.paulhourican.net/epk/ (though it is only intended for industry folk and the like!)  I’ve also recently been accepted as an artist in resident at the amazing Tyrone Guthrie Centre which is an artist retreat in Co. Monaghan in Ireland where artists, poets, musicians, writers ect. can go to focus on their ‘art’! I am really delighted about this and will be heading up early in November for a week. This is when i intend to start thinking about a new record and see what bits and bob’s i have. You can checkout the centre here www.tyroneguthrie.ie  I have been writing away too but it’s very early days and have not been thinking about another album yet but there are new songs popping up that i am throwing into the recent live set’s to take them for a test drive. One is called ‘Lord Light My Way’ and i’m really looking forward to recording it and hope it will be on the next record.  I also had my first festival experience this summer with Castlepalooza in Tullamore Co. Offally. I really enjoyed the experience and got a mention as one of the highlights in Hotpress’s review of the festival. They also said i delivered a ‘beautifully impassioned performance’! Which of course i did! Anywho, there is plenty coming up and 3 dublin show’s in September which i am really looking forward to with a midnight performance in Dublin’s premier art gallery EBOW on Friday 19th September to celebrate Dublin culture night. That is followed by a Whelan’s gig the next night. I will be playing upstairs and the fantastic Lisa Hannigan will be downstairs so it should be interesting!! Oh yeah, wanted to mention that i played De Barras in Clonakilty on Friday with Caruso www.caruso.ie and really enjoyed it. It is a very special place indeed!Ok, that’s it! I’m signing off! Hope your happy with that Gloria!!!Until next Christmas!!Paul

Blah Blog!

Posted in Diary on October 9th, 2007 by Paul Hourican

Hey dudes,

How goes it? Haven’t written a diary entry for ages as you can see but as i am now trying to learn how to manage this whole website thing i have to write one as homework!
Anywho, things with the aul’ music are great! Really enjoying my time on the road with Dublin’s finest!! Aslan have been fantastic to me over the last few months and the gigs are going well. They’re new album ‘For some strange reason’ is out now!! So go and get a copy, fantastic stuff!
As for my album, it looks like it will be released in January 2008! The last single ‘All i ever wanted’ did really well getting a shitload of airplay up and down the country and still is! There is one more single scheduled for this year. ‘Even though you’re gone’ will get a full release (both digital and mechanical) nationwide on Friday 26th October!! It’s a bit of a change from the last song but what the hey! We shall see! Come down to Crawdaddy in Dublin on Tuesday 6th November to celebrate it’s release!
Also i have my first headlining gigs booked for outside of Dublin in October and November with more to come so am really looking forward to those!!
Anyway, i could waffle on for ages but this feels like work and my fingers are getting tired so fuck it!

See you soon,

Paolo

Happy New Year!

Posted in Diary on January 26th, 2007 by Paul Hourican

Hey everyone,

Welcome to 2007 and hope you had a great new year etc.! Just thought I’d drop a line to say hello and fill you in on what’s been going on. As you have probably noticed things have been quiet for live performances so far this year. It won’t last i can assure you! The reason being that I’m putting the finishing touches on my debut album at present! I’m delighted to report that it is going swimmingly well!!! I almost have two albums done at this stage, maybe i’ll regret saying that if i ever get a chance to make that “difficult” second album but fuck it, the music has me excited at the moment so I’m going to indulge in this over-confidence while it lasts!
